Workshops

Your Adventure In Photography

The workshops offered are developed and taught by Jason Symington MFA. Jason’s education, industry experience and 17 years of teaching photography have led him to develop “The Photographic Process” approach to learning the technical principles and creative practices of photography.

Special guest instructors will also be invited to present their unique photographic visions and techniques so students can receive a variety of information and techniques to further their own photographic pursuits.

Our workshops are developed as tracks including: Digital Photography, Lighting, Post-Processing and Creative Development.

Each track takes students on an adventure towards gaining a greater understanding of photographic problems and the processes that will solve them.

“ Photography is about problem solving. Once you learn the process to solve one problem, you move onto the next process for the next problem.”

The Digital Photography track has seen many attendees begin just wanting to take better pictures and going on to manually control their camera in challenging lighting situations and achieving amazing results.

The Lighting track focuses on students understanding the principles of ambient, flash and continuous light, the equipment and lighting modifiers.

Knowing how to manipulate light takes images from snapshots to wow shots.

Post-Production is a necessary step in the digital era. Many students are amazed at how much better their images look with only a little knowledge of what is possible in the digital darkroom. Working with Lightroom and Photoshop, students learn proper importing workflows, creative processing and exporting of images for print and online.

Creative development begins with visual language and never ends. The Creative Development track is for photographers who have gone through the previous tracks and are ready to be challenged to create incredible images. It is like an out of University MFA program, with critiques and exhibitions.

“ Our workshops make you a better photographer.”

"I wanted to learn more about photography and I wanted to learn it from Jason" - Ashlee G [Lighting]

The goal of this workshop track is to take students from wanting to get good pictures to creating photographs that "wow". We begin by building a strong foundation of technical know-how. This leads to students gaining the confidence needed to make proper exposures in a variety of conditions. From the technical we move forward to developing creativity. Students learn to make more interesting images by "seeing" the world around them through the camera. Everyone at one time has said, "I wish I could have taken this picture the way I saw it in my mind". The Digital Photography track gives students the knowledge, processes and creative development to make photographs the way they “see” them in their mind.
